Deep garnet in colour, with tremendous intensity on the nose. Colonnello is always very perfumed and floral on the nose because of the sandy soils in which the vines grow. Blackberry and woodland fruit characters on the palate are balanced by rounded, ripe tannins and powerful structure. The Colonnello vineyard is one of Conterno's best vineyards. It is situated on Bussia Soprana in Monforte d'Alba and is one of the most sought after sites in the area. Maceration on the skins lasted 24 days and was followed by temperature controlled fermentation in stainless steel tank with maximum temperatures of 32°C. The wine remained in stainless steel for a further 4-5 months after which it was transferred to 25hl Slovenian oak barrels where it remained for about 26-28 months before bottling.
